Global Industrial 12,000 BTU Through-The-Wall Air Conditioner, 115V, Energy Star Rated

I bought my unit from the Global Industrial website. Customers should be aware that even though the air conditioner says Global on it, it is actually a GARRISON 2498543. This is per Midea, the company that actually manufactures the unit. This is not necessarily a bad thing. If I had known it was actually a Garrison, I would have bought it a year ago. Garrisons can be hard to come by and will sometimes fluctuate widely in price. I have heard louder 12000 BTU air conditioners, but it still loud even on its lowest settings. I have to turn up the TV and stereo. I have to wear earplugs to sleep. I can't wait until summer is over! The louvers will send the air in four directions, but it takes some effort to make them point up. The remote has a "follow me" function, which I really like. If you use the remote's "follow me" function, the unit gives a 3-degree variance between high and low temperatures; ie, if you set the remote at 72 degrees, the compressor will cool the room until the remote registers 72 degrees and then shut off until the remote registers 75 degrees. I prefer this wider variance in temperature because it gives you more silent time when using the energy saving feature. If you do not use the "follow me" function, the variance is less than a degree, but the temperature of the room will average about 3 degrees higher than your setting. I have to add that the description on this website has two errors. The Efficiency Rating is actually 10.5 not 12.5. The unit is not "ultra-quiet" unless you have a hearing problem. If you have an acute sense of smell, as I do, you need to be warned that the new refrigerant that is now used (R410a) has a chemical scent noticed sometimes when only the fan is running. I returned three Garrison air conditioners because I thought they were leaking coolant. I have since noticed that same smell with two other air conditioners that also use the R410a coolant; I realize now that the Garrisons were probably not leaking coolant at all.
