Peep Inside a Fairy Tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: 2

Beautifully told story for preschoolers and nice flaps/cut outs
My daughter and I are huge fans of the Peep Inside a Fairy Tale series and it is heavenly to have more titles being published. This is a beautifully told story for preschoolers and early school age children. The cut outs are also superbly positioned to show details relevant to the story on both sides of the cut out page when turned. However, there are two little niggles:1. The illustrations are beautiful, but I honestly found Snow White's face a bit distracting - her eyes are so wide set to the extent I couldn't stop thinking about it. Also, I feel that her expression changes are much too subtle for a three year old. From a cursory glance, they don't change at all.2. On the last page, the story describes the wicked queen being sent away. My three year old keeps asking me to point out the queen leaving in the picture, but she isn't there. I would love to see a tiny queen leaving in the distance. Also two of the pictured dwarfs aren't reacting positively to Snow White waking up; one has turned his back. My three year old noticed this and asks for an explanation at each read.

Visual and tactile re-telling of a favourite story, that appeals to children age 5 to 7
Working in key stage 1 (age 5 to 7) this peep inside a fairy tale is a lovely book for one to one reading, sharing this familiar story with simple, clear language. The colours and the cut out sections evoke walking deeper into the forest, but light is still coming through the leaves. The details of the forest animals give Snow White companionship. I found the children liked Snow White's face, which is very much how some 6's old draw faces and enjoyed feeling the solid edges of the shapes, as well as the lifting the flaps. There's a light touch to the story and the illustrations, which is comforting, without losing the threatening aspects of the original tale.

Exquisite illustrations!
The story is well known but is the illustrations and cut out details that make this version so special. My granddaughter loves all the dwarves and thinks Snow White is beautiful.

Beautifully detailed cut outs and flaps.
Lovely intricate peepholes that work forwards and backwards, with beautiful illustrations. A delightful version of a classic fairy tale.

Not great
Not as good as Beauty and the Beast or Little Red Riding Hood. Feels long and they use 'kill' twice which I thought was a bit much for my toddler

Lacking the detail of others in the series.
Lacks the detail of the other books in the series. Hardly any flaps and not many cut outs. Quite disappointed as we have several others in the series, such as Cinderella which is beautifully detailed. The language is a bit much for young children too in my opinion. Words like “kill” and “death” don’t sit well in a bedtime story. Again others in the series seem to have been better thought out.
