i-Chek by Avenova – An Illuminated, Magnifying Eyelid & Eyelash Mirror for Blepharitis, Chalazion, Styes, Dry Eyes, Contact Lenses, and Lash Extensions

This is my second purchase of this item. I first purchased it in Feb 2022, and though I could see my eyes quite well, I had trouble with switch not working. I had to constantly shift my thumb around to get a good connection. Eventually, the switch got so bad I took it apart and added some extra material for additional pressure, and that worked fairly well for over a year. But recently I could barely get it turn on at all, so I took a chance and bought a new one because the old one helped me see my eyes so well. OMG, the new one is awesome! It makes a click sound when I push the "on" button (the old one didn't), so no more frustrating back and forth with my thumb, which tells me I had a defective unit before.Warning for this new one though: it came with a very sticky protective cover. When I removed it, I knew it would be problematic as goop was stuck on the mirror and it had other sticker haze too. Having had problems with sticky goop on surfaces before, I happened to have pure turpentine on hand. It took the goop off, but there was still some haze on the mirror once I cleaned the turpentine off. Next, I tried leaving a small coating of turpentine on the mirror, and that worked. I'm getting a beautiful clear glass image of my eye. I love it!!! This one is brighter than the old one, and the image is so much crisper than the old one (with the turpentine coating left on) . Wow, just wow! I'll update my review if it turns out the turpentine damages the mirror down the road.

Buyer with true eye conditions BEWARE. My lighted magnified make up mirror gives me a better image! This causes a round white light that interferes with the already hazy image. The mirror portion is literally a piece of foil! I have diagnosed severe thyroid dry eye syndrome & the last thing I needed was to be tricked into spending over $30! They refused to accept a return.

I have severe dry eye and have the “foreign body feeling” that everyone with dry eyes gets.This allows me to see CLEARLY whether it is an actual foreign body or just the function of surface issue problems.You cannot remove objects like a lash with this because you hold it very close to the eye and one hand is occupied holding it.If you need to remove a lash then you would use a traditional lighted make up mirror.

I'm changing my rating from before because I've come to rely on this thing. I just wish the build quality were better, and that the mirror wouldn't be just a sticker. Looking at the image through the sticker mirror reflection kinda feels like looking through some haze, and it gets scratched easily and over time the image quality just gets degraded. The thing is really VERY cheaply made, but it seems like there's no other option on the market right now.

I see some other reviewers have said they have a hard time using it but somehow this works for me. I have monovision so I must hold it differently for each eye, but the results of seeing my lashes up close is astounding and helpful in cleaning maintenance which is so important for pesky blepharitis.

I like this little gadget. It’s helpful for getting a better view of what’s going on with my eyelid margins.

I love that it enables you to see every little thing in your eye I’ve been having a lot of blepharitis issues and it allows me to see everything that’s going on and if I have cat hairs or whatever in my eye it’s awesome. The only downfall is it is a little cheap so be very careful. Customer service is great.

I got this unit on the basis of a review site that said these were useful for cornea inspection, and scleral lense review.The problem with the unit is the housing material is also lit up by the led lights, leaving this big white ring showing on your eye, obscuring a portion of the area I'm trying to review. The housing needs to be a dark non light transmitting material, so dont see this white lit up ring in my eye.
