A vade mecum for all homesteaders.
One of my all-time favourite books on self-suffiency and small scale farming. Well-written and beautifully illustrated by Sally Seymour, to my mind this is a better version than the later colour illustrated version. John Seymour is almost as outspoken as William Cobbett and this only adds to the appeal to me. No political correctness here, he tells it like it really is! A rattlin’ good read!

Just love it
First of all - don't expect to become self sufficient with this book. This is an introduction, a glossary, a brief journey in the world of self sufficiency that is - as you can imagine - enormous. A fantastic introduction. It does not matter if you want to know how people used to work the land without tractors, which is the best firewood or you just want to sit and read something interesting. Does not matter if you want to turn into a farmer or just dream about it. This is a great book, and the one I got is in a great format with nice pictures.Worth every penny (my kids love it too).Book arrived in excellent conditions and delivered quickly as well.

A good read
Love this book, its a real self sufficiency book that focuses on animal husbandry and veggie growing etc. Really nice to browse through, it was first written in the1970s and I love the way its been laid out etc. I certainly have no intention of raising and slaughtering my own animals but its interesting to read about it (you never know it may be a useful skill to learn!).

2nd HAND JOHN SEYMOUR FORMER EDITIONS OF COMPLETE BOOK OF SELF SUFFICIENCY
Gave our original copy away so got a few as friends are getting some livestock and land and still believe this book is the best so got one for us, and 2 for friends as managed to get them for £1.42 each. John Seymour has brought out a new colour version so everyone seems to be replacing their older edition in favour of this one.

Best book ever
This is an amazing book for anyone wanting to live the good life free of additives and pesticides in their food. I had a small holding with goats, hen's, Bantams, Geese as well as growing all the family's food many years ago, this book was bought for me and it was invaluable and became pretty dog eared from constant use Hence buying it again. Money well spent.

I did not receive the coloured dust jacket as advertised and would not have bought it

Feels like a different era
This book was mentioned in Novel on the Hill, and I was intrigued to see how deeply sufficiency worked. Clearly devotion, effort and diligence is required.I may donate the book to the village museum as it delete a bygone era. Interesting reading.

A little bit of the good life
Great bit of history with some prophetic words from John. Seems to me that the problems they were looking at then are all around us now. Good book for the allotmenter or doomsday prepper in your life. Contains everything from making a gate, draining a field or brewing you own booze.

Unreadable ebook due to unedited scan.
Being a fan of John Seymour and his books I am sad to have to say that this ebook version is a disgrace because it has not been edited after having been scanned. Sentences mixed up in texts under illustrations because they are in two columns which has not been recognized by the scan, mixed paragraphs in parts of the book which are illustrated and so on. The whole section on vegetables produced in the garden is almost unreadable. One should ask ones money back for this not usable product. Please beware and don't buy this as ebook. As lovely as the book is produced in print it is virtually destroyed in the ebook version. If I could give 0 stars I would.

In dieser Form unlesbar.
Das Buch in seiner gedruckten Version ist ein Klassiker und bekommt von mir 5 Sterne. Die Kindle Version ist jedoch dank verstümmelten Grafiken einfach eine Frechheit.

Self Sufficiency here we come!
Great book. Inspiring, with many tried and true methods to use on your path to self sufficiency. The illustrations in the book are FANTASTIC, I am not sure if they were done by the publishing company or the authors wife. I read that the Sally Seymour did the illustrations but she is not given credit anywhere in the book that I can see. This book was one of the early publications put out by Dorling Kindersley, they continue to publish lovely books with great illustrations, so if anyone knows who did the illustrations in this book, please let me know. This book gives a wealth of information and should certainly motivate all of us to do for ourselves just a little more. Whether you want to just do a few things for yourself, such as growing a few vegetables, or you want to go the "whole hog" and keep a large garden, chickens, live stock, and make most of the things you need in daily life, this book will give you the motivation and information you need to get started.

Awesome content, however, ebook version has format problems
The ebook version has some major problems with the illustrations, majority of the pictures are chopped up, can't make anything of them, plus there are some typos.

Disappointed
For the $115.00 (AUS) I paid for the book I was very disappointed. The book looked old & used to some degree. I won't be ordering anything through Amazon in the future. It has not been a good experience. Regards Jacqui Harris
