Everything about this screw is huge. The largest I could find at HomeDepot was a 3/8" x 8" and the eye was bent, meaning there is a small gap, rather than completely closed as in this case. 8" was a bit too long for my needs so I tried this screw even though I found 5/8 to be a bit of an overkill and the price a bit excessive. I didn't want to go shorter than 4" though. BTW: The 4" is the distance from the tip to the bottom of the ring, so you can screw this 4" into the surface you are attaching it to.Beware that you will need appropriately sized tools and accessories. A pilot hole into hard wood is likely to need a 7/16 or ½" drill bit, which will not fit into most regular cordless drills (which usually only accept up to 3/8" drill bits). If you plan to use a quick link to attach something to the eye of the screw, it will have to be a ½" one as even the 3/8" won't open wide enough.

Beast!
This is a beast! Do not be concerned by 4" length. It is big, thick, and hefty and has 3500 lbs rating. I am using a pair of these as anchors for my zipline and I feel completely confident that these will hold. I looked for eye screws at home improvement stores but even their biggest ones are flimsy compared to these. I also like the completely enclosed eye because there's no chance my turnbuckle can come loose even if the cable is bouncing up and down with kids playing on it.I can think of using some more of these to build a treehouse in the future. They look like an aceptable alternative to Garnier Limb bolts that are very, very expensive.

Made very well
There has to be a cheaper closed loop eye lag bolt out there. I would give these 5 stars if they didn't cost $13, its just a screw.

tougher than expected
This is one heavy duty eye screw. Nice thick galvanize. They didn't polish the forging much so there are a few rough spots.I screwed them into a tree to hold up my hammock. Works great and two of us can nap in the hammock, no prob.

I use these for holding up my hammock
Recently, I switched from regular beds to hammocks. I had some figuring out to do along the way, as I upgraded each item. These eye screws represent the end of my evaluations for the appropriate anchor. With an appropriate pilot hole and a lever of some kind to use for screwing it in, this will become very solid. Doesn't flex or groan under my weight.

Bought to Rig My Aerial Hoop
I bought this eye screw to hook up my lyra (aerial hoop)to the ceiling in my garage. This eye screw is VERY sturdy and it works great! I feel very secure on my hoop knowing that this beast is in the support beam of the ceiling and not budging. This was exactly what I was looking for!

Heavy duty
Super huge and durable, it worked great for my daughter's swing. Would not recommend it for smaller purchases.

Great for holding a dipole antenna in trees
I purchased these eye screws to support a dipole antenna between two trees. I predrilled the holes and ran the eye screws into the tree with a screw driver shaft for leverage. I found the eyelets to be very strong and of high quality. Very satisfied.Jim Gilliam, K6QE
