Broken Bonds: A thrilling romantic suspense novel (The Cold Creek Novels Book 3)

Decent entry in the series
This is book 3 of the Cold Creek series by Karen Harper.Broken Bonds follows Char, the last unattached Lockwood sister, and Matt Rowan, a local business property and business manager for the fancy Lake Azure community. Char was recently removed from her position as a social worker with the Navajo out west. She's come back to her hometown to regroup and decide what to do next. In the meantime, she is working as a social worker in Cold Creek, trying to connect with the mountain folk.Matt works for his mentor and friend, Royce Flemming. Royce's foray into fracking is creating a divide between the mountain folks who are profiting from the sales of their properties and the ones who remain to struggle for every dollar.Matt is nearly run off of the road and killed when Char comes along and saves him. From that point, they become a team, trying to figure out who the real target is and why. The subplot involving the local cult continues as well.I thought that this was a decent entry in the series. I was happy that the anger issues that marred the relationship between Grant and Kate were not repeated with Matt and Char. Matt's character, though, could have used some fleshing out. He seemed a bit 2-dimensional.The plot moved along for the most part. I think Harper thoughtfully wove in the fracking piece without seeming too heavy-handed in her opinion of it.Recommend.Β© Angela Risner 2015. the best in the series
This is a continuation of the Lockwood sisters and mainly the middle sister Char. There is many weird things going on in Cold Creek, Ohio. Char rescues a man Matt after an attempt has been made to kill him by pushing him off a cliff. So goes the introduction of the romance of Matt and Char. The rest of the storyline is the mystery of whose trying to kill not only Matt, but also Char. There are many suspects to choose from, including the crazy cult leader Bight Star from the first and second book in this series. This story brings all three books together, although it is not necessary to read the other two first, but recommended. You learn more about the life's of the Lockwood family which is the binding glue. There's always romance and mystery in Karen Harpers books. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it for your reading enjoyment.

Very Good Series
I really enjoyed this series, I read all three. What I very much like about this author is that she is confident enough in her writing/stories that she allows the reader to use their imagination - she doesn't feel the need to go into graphic detail about sex scenes unlike other authors. I realize many people like that and this is not intended as criticism, it is merely my personal opinion. I would rather use my imagination. Kudos to you, Karen Harper.

Save your time and read something better than this
Well, this book is better than the previous one, but that isn't saying much. When the leading lady saw a car being pushed off a cliff, I felt that this would be good mystery. Not so. For one thing, it doesn't flow well. Too stilted. Also, there are so many problems in the area, fracking, new rich people moving into an area of poverty stricken people, the poor children not going to school, a cult and more. The cult is in the 3 books and was the most interesting part- could Char get her relatives away from that or not. Char and Matt fell in love too quickly and the dialogue just didn't ring true.I bought all 3 paperbacks and what a waste of money that was. The writer should have stopped with the first book.

I loved the whole series about the 3 Lockwood sisters lives ...
I loved the whole series about the 3 Lockwood sisters lives and how they were effected by different circumstances and their various choices and interests. Also I really enjoy books with the Appalachian Mountains as the setting and the people of Appalachia as characters. Good, strong message.

Good reads
liked this book. I had read the previous books in this series and found them to be exciting. It was neat to be able to follow the sisters through all their adventures. I also liked the fact that I never suspected who the villains were.

I have really enjoyed reading this trilogy, Romance and mystery are excellent bedfellows.
I was both captivated and admiring of the difficult topics covered in this book. Sensitive subjects like these need more exposure.

Better than the last.
More appealing heroine. Slightly better story. Not as boring as the last. Does not make me want to read any more of her books.
