Did you know DVD's have Regions? I didn't!
I am very upset with this product. I was unaware that there are "regions" for DVD's. Until this DVD wouldn't play, I had no idea that some videos can only play in certain machines sold in various parts of the world. Turns out this DVD was for Region 2... funny thing, it can only play in western Europe and Greenland. I am very upset and frustrated that it would be sold to someone with an address in the U.S. There should have been some kind of statement on the order site that describes this. I'm out the money unless I figure out how to do a return.

Awful
Hollywood just love remakes, remakes of excellent films and as usual they turn them into something awful and this one is a complete turkey. It's so slow moving you fall asleep, it suffers the modern trend of mumbling dialogue and it just drifts.A truly awful film fit only for the bin

Stellar film in everyway
Wasn't sure this film was my cup of tea but the wife wanted to watch it and so we did. Amazing performances from Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, really cannot understand how anybody can say they lacked the singing talent! Had never seen previous versions and although I had received a spoiler about Cooper's character when it happened it wasn't at all what I was expecting. How on earth he didn't get a Best Director nomination is beyond me. Stunning performances, stunning film.

261. Lady Gaga: The great pretender (+ product specifications)
One of last year's biggest box office successes gets to have its long-awaited blu-ray and DVD releases this week. "A star is born", both as a soundtrack and as a movie made me love Stefani Germanotta again (I call her by her real name because Lady Gaga is dead for this project). She simply slays with her performance in this project where she is the driving vehicle behind it. Brilliantly matched with co-star Bradley Cooper who is also directing, she IS the star of this remake which is what film-making is all about: escapism and dreaming. The rawness and vulnerability of her performance is so pure and engaging that one is convinced that she is not acting it but living it. She stunned viewers in "American horror story" with her emblematic character, but in this she shines brighter than she has ever done in her career to date (perhaps even more so than in music). The movie storyline is familiar to most, and despite some clichés, this remake is a winner on every level.Note: There are nearly 10 different official editions available on blu-ray and DVD, with some being really special (in the photos are the steelbook blu-ray, the UK DVD+CD combo, and the 4K Ultra HD editions). A BEAUTIFUL VERSION OF A CLASSIC. (GREAT MUSIC TO CHERISH)
Though the film is obviously not a remake it does of course follow the theme of the classic-story....It tells of how seasoned country-artist Jack Maine (Bradley Cooper) who these days needs a mixof alcohol and drugs to feel confident enough to perform on-stage comes across Ally (Lady Gaga)singing on stage in a nightclub he decided to visit to simply have a drink, Ally a restaurant workerhad once dreamed of a singing career but had long since given-up, though she still penned songsas a hobby.Jack is quite taken with her and asks her to spend the remainder of the evening in his company tohave a drink or two and get to know each other....the evening/night goes well,he invites her to cometo his show that evening...but she has a job to go to....................needless to say she does attend andto her surprise he invites her on-stage to perform a number with him.........though he has seen manywoman down the years he'd never before invited one to sing at one of his concerts.Romance follows, Ally quickly becomes a stand-out act in her own right....however Jack continues toself-destruct seemingly even more-so as Ally begins to eclipse her now husbands career.....................The film also stars screen-legend Sam Elliot as Jack's older half-brother, seems to me, though a fan ofSam Elliot he does always seem to play himself.Lady Gaga and indeed Bradley Cooper who also directs the film weren't first choice for a remake of AStar is Born.....both i have to say excel in their roles. Many like myself will have seen at least one if not more of the earlier versions and will indeed have afavourite....i can vaguely remember seeing the Judy Garland 1954 film on TV, i did see the BarbaraStreisand/Kris Kristofferson 1976 film in the cinema when on-release and again recently on network-TV......can't remember seeing the 1937 original on TV......................have to admit i do like the 1976 film, however this version does run it close................don't miss this one if you enjoy a great musical.

Too much of a weepy for me
Question for anyone who has watched A star is born - how would ‘Ally’have gone from writing a song like Shallow (deeply emotional and mature) and the song about the way they are together to singing a trashy song about a ‘man in jeans sending her texts’ while gyrating around the tv stage with dancers? And then wins a Grammy? 3 Grammys! It was just not surprising he took to drink. I poured a glass myself at that stage.Full marks to Bradley Cooper for a stunning and quite astonishing performance. He was quite mesmerizing. The jury is still out on Lady Gaga. I liked her till she dyed her hair and changed from Ally to Lady GaGa. And not enough time was spent on their relationship so it lost a bit of heart. The film upset me a bit. Please don’t discuss the end here for those who haven’t seen it - including me. I turned off ‘before’. I could see how it was going to end when he fed the dog and I just couldn’t face it. 😢😢 please no more remakes of this film!!
